Within the business, we are organised into functions. A brief overview below may help you think about which area of the business you would like to join.

• ‘Delivery’ essentially is what we provide to our customers (usually train operators but also retailers, advertisers and property investors). This covers the operation, maintenance and renewal of the railway and the commercial property.
• ‘Assurance’ covers the policy-setting functions that determine the framework for how and when we deliver these outputs, and include engineering, safety & compliance.
• ‘Corporate Service’ functions are a raft of professional support services that allow us to run the business in an efficient and professional manner.
• The Maintenance Directorate repairs and maintains the railway infrastructure, including track, signalling equipment, power supplies and overhead lines. Away from track, they are responsible for maintaining operational land and property including fencing, draining, litter clearance and vegetation management.
