Maintenance

We have brought all infrastructure maintenance back in-house in order to deliver a more efficient, cost-effective and well co-ordinated programme nationwide.

It’s been one of the biggest changes the industry has seen in decades, but the move is already reaping visible dividends. Some 15,000 employees have been successfully transferred to Network Rail from seven different companies, more than doubling the size of our workforce. And by introducing standardisation and process improvements, maintenance costs have been reduced by an impressive £70m since work was brought back in-house.

Are you keen to be part of the team that is making a real difference to our country’s railway? Then take a look at the roles we are currently recruiting for.

Application maintenance roles

Please complete the application form and return it to us. When we receive your application, it will be matched against set criteria to see whether you are initially suitable for the position. We will write to you to let you know whether or not your application will be progressed further.

If you meet our criteria, you will be invited to attend a selection event, from May onwards. Invitations will be sent out two weeks prior to the event.

At the selection event, a presentation will be given telling you about Network Rail and the role of our Maintenance discipline. You will then be asked to sit a test(s), which is relevant to the role you have applied for. If you pass the test(s), you will attend an interview with a line manager and an HR representative.

You will need to pass the interview at a required level for your application to be progressed further. If successful, you will be sent to a pre-employment medical, which includes Drugs & Alcohol screening.

If you pass the medical, a job offer will be made to you immediately or you will be told that your application has been placed on file. The reason why your application might be left on file is because we do not, at present, have a vacancy within easy travelling distance of your home address. Once a suitable vacancy becomes available, you will immediately be considered for it.
