Euston Station Upgrade

Euston station is one of the busiest stations in the country and is used by over 70 million people each year. Euston station is the main rail gateway from London to the West Midlands, the North West and southern Scotland. The station currently suffers from congestion and the station facilities are limited.

We are acting on the results of the 2007 Passenger Satisfaction Survey, which highlighted capacity and toilet facilities to be of concern to passengers at Euston. Passengers rightly demand and expect the best facilities and retail experience at their stations, and we are seeking to deliver this at Euston over the coming months by investing £9 million in station improvements.

This is the first stage of work that will compliment the proposed full development of the station. We are committed to finding the right solution for passengers and the surrounding community and we are therefore working with the industry, the DfT, London-wide and local stakeholders, as we shape our long term plan for Euston station.

Over the coming months we are re-developing the station piazza to create a more pleasant station environment for passengers. This involves repaving the piazza area in front of the station entrance, as well bringing bigger and better shops and cafes for passengers to use whilst they wait for their trains.

The work will integrate transport links, making the transition from rail to buses and taxi services significantly easier.

Within the station we are:

• Installing 2 new lifts down to the London underground ticket office and the taxi rank.
• Upgrading the existing taxi rank area, creating 8 pickup bays.
• Introducing an innovative taxi share system, aimed at encouraging car sharing and reducing the cost of onward travel for our passengers.
• Upgrading the station toilet facilities.
